Devil May Cry is a beloved franchise by game company Capcom and has received multiple TV adaptations through the years. Most notably, Netflix has just released season two of its own adaptation of the show.
The show kicks off with the fallout consequences of the end of season one, and focuses on the main character, Dante, as he awakes from his frozen sleep to confront his brother, Vergil. Throughout the series, Dante and Vergil shed blood in order to battle out their conflicted ideas on humanity.
WJPS 12th grader Giselle Nuñez said, “The fight scenes between the brothers look amazing.”
However, fans of the video game might feel disappointment while watching this season. The adaptation is supposed to follow the third installment of the game franchise, but creators take the show in a completely different direction from the original source material.
As a result, the adaptation feels detached from the world fans know and love, instead offering a brand new perspective on already established characters and plot sequences which go against the video games.
Still, this show has much to offer, even if it’s not the ideal adaptation. Whether it be a starting point for new fans to get into the game or old fans who want fresh ideas, the adaptation still holds value.
WJPS 11th grader Marina Melissinos said, “I’m not familiar with the games, but the show looks really cool.”
