The New York State Excelsior Scholarship opened up on May 26th, and students have until August 31st to apply.
This application is for students who want to earn a first-time award for this upcoming academic year. The New York State Excelsior Scholarship can be applied for online.
Students who want to pursue an undergraduate degree can attend a SUNY or CUNY college for free tuition if their families earn an adjusted federal income of $125,000 or less.
In order to keep the scholarship, students would have to agree to live and work in New York State for the same amount of years the scholarship pays for the college or university the student is attending.
Students are also required to be registered full-time, annually completing at least 30 credits in their program of study.
WJPS 12th grader Daniela Vicente said, “I think the Excelsior Scholarship provides students a great chance to afford an education by covering their SUNY or CUNY college tuition.”
WJPS 12th grader Ricardo Aviles-Valle said, “I believe the Excelsior Scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students who haven’t gotten the financial help from financial aid and TAP to be able to go to CUNY and SUNY schools for free.”
