Graduation is on June 26th for the WJPS Class of 2026 and some may wonder if attending the event is really worth it.
Some students discuss not going to graduation, while others just come.
Some may feel it isn’t necessary to show up and some may be afraid of walking on the stage in front of a lot of people.
Attending graduation isn’t mandatory, but those who don’t want to go should be able to celebrate their accomplishment with their school in another less frightening way.
Students shouldn’t miss graduation out of fear of large crowds, stage fright, and or other reasons that can be accommodated.
WJPS 12th grade student, Anika Narula said, “I don’t want to go to graduation because I have no need to reflect on the memories in high school and I don’t have as much of a general connection to my graduating class… For me the ceremony will be long and boring. I don’t want to waste my time by going to that.”
WJPS 12th grade student Ava Ortiz said, “I think it’s exciting, I can’t wait to finally graduate. I don’t really care for the stage walking. I just want to be done with high school.”
WJPS shouldn’t spend money on another ceremony for those too afraid to walk down the stage.
Instead we can have another field day like event, but just for the seniors to reminisce and enjoy their accomplishments together.
