NY Giants beat their rivals, the Washington Redskins

by Sabrina Kanavatsas, staff reporter

NY Giants once again amazed their fans with this extravagant victory against their rivals.

The Giants and the Redskins have been rivals ever since 1932, making it one of the longest NFL rivalries in history.

On September 25, 2014, the NY Giants went to Washington for a game against the Redskins. The game ended with a score of 45 to 14, Giants for the win.

This game started out with the defensive end, Mathias Kiwanuka, sacking the Redskin’s quarterback. Soon after, Larry Donell, the tight end, scored a touchdown for the Giants. This ended the quarter and leading into the second.

In the second quarter, Donnell scored another touchdown. However, the Redskins had the opportunity to score a touchdown as well. After the Redskins’ touchdown, Donnell, once again, led the Giants to a touchdown of their own.

Shortly after, cornerback, Trumaine McBride stripped the ball from the Redskins and was able to recover it. After gaining possession, Eli Manning, quarterback, threw the ball 29 yards to his wide receiver, Victor Cruz. This play led to the Giants scoring a field goal.

This game went into halftime with a score of 17 to 7 with the Giants in the lead.

The third quarter began with a touchdown by the Redskins. Then, the corner back, Prince Amukamara, intercepted the Redskins ball. Quintin Demps, safety, also intercepted another ball shortly after.

Gaining possession of the ball soon benefited the Giants by getting them to score a touchdown by the tight end, Daniel Fells. Soon following this touchdown, McBride intercepted another Redskins ball, ending the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Manning did something he was not known for doing. He ran for a touchdown. Manning is not known for running, especially running a touchdown. The stadium boomed with excitement with this astonishing play. The game ended with the running back, Andre Williams, scoring a touchdown.

“The quarterback got us in a lot of good situations.” said Giants head coach, Tom Coughlin.

Coughlin was proud of Manning’s ability to make 4 touchdown throws, and to have even ran another one. Manning seemed to have his head in the game and to be very determined in this game.

“The giants are doing great! I can’t wait to see their next game! I just hope they can keep up the teamwork” junior Binnah Cha said.

The Giants current record for the season is 2 wins and 2 loses. Their last 2 games were remarkable and they clearly wanted to get out of their losing streak and back into a winning streak.
