A little rain never stopped a concert before, and this past Tuesday was no different when Saywecanfly came to the Revolution in Amityville, LI on the first stop of his short east coast tour.
Saywecanfly is not a band like most people would think. It consists of only one guy named Braden Barrie from Ontario, Canada. Depending on the tour, Barrie will sometimes bring along his traveling band to play with him. For this tour, Barrie had his traveling band accompanying him.
Opening the show was Cheap Shots from Long Island, New York, The Como Brothers Band from Mount Sinai, New York, and & 7 Minutes In Heaven from Chicago, Illinois.
On the flyers and online, it said that doors to the venue were supposed to open at 6:30pm, however the doors didn’t open until 7pm which left fans standing in the drizzling rain for a half an hour. Once inside, the venue never filled up all of the way. At the start of the show there were about 50-60 people, but by the end of the night there were only 20-30 people left which is not a lot considering that the venue can hold up to 450 people.
First up was Cheap Shots made up of Max McGill (lead singer/guitarist), Cody Omage (drummer), and Vincent Lombardo (bassist). They played songs from their new album The Things That Keep Me Up Late. The band had a lot of energy and was very entertaining to watch.
Next up were the Como Brothers Band which consists of Matt and Andrew Como. The pair came out with their guitars and sang some of their original songs like “Magic” and “Chemicals”. They also did a cover of “Don’t” by Ed Sheeran.
“Playing a show in Amityville NY tonight at Revolution Music Hall. You know I have to stop by the haunted house and take a mandatory selfie ” Barrie tweeted.
After them was 7 Minutes In Heaven (7MIH) made up of Timmy Rasmussen (guitarist/singer), Alex Rogers (bassist/singer), Justin Mondzak (guitarist/singer) and Brennan Gilbert (drummer). The band took to the stage and started their set with their song “Fireworks” off of their newly released EP Side Effects. They also played “I’m Okay” and “Side Effects” from their new EP. Along with all of the new songs, they also played some older fan favorites like “Rotation” and “Misconnections”. 7MIH have a lot of energy on stage. They jump around all over the stage, jump off of speakers, spin and most of, all they make sure that the crowd if having the time of their lives.
Last but certainly not least was Saywecanfly. As this was the first night of the tour, Barrie had been traveling all day to get from his home in Canada to the venue. Even though he was only running on two to three hours of sleep, he still gave it his all and performed amazingly. Barrie sang some new songs from his newest EP Darling. Some of those songs were “High School,” and “When I Come Home.” He also sang some older songs like “Song of the Sparrow” and “The Art of Anesthesia.” In between songs, Barrie talked and interacted with the crowd while he re-tuned his guitar. He later tweeted a quote of a fan’s joke that made him laugh:
“‘How do you do your hair for a SayWeCanFly show? You put a Braden it.’ Someone said that after one of my songs and I died,” Barrie tweeted.
Barrie then ended his set with a fan favorite called, “Intoxicated I Love You.”
After all the bands had performed, the guys of 7 Minutes In Heaven and Barrie himself came out to hang out at their merch tables to talk to fans and take pictures. Since there were not a lot of people in the venue left after the show, everybody was able to get the picture that they wanted and left the venue happy with a good night left in their memories.
