As the regular season comes to an end, so those of the New York Yankees (87-75) and Pittsburgh Pirates (98-64) seasons. Both teams lost in the wild card game, a one-playoff-game that determines which team moves on to the Division Series.
The Yankees lost against the Houston Astros 3-0, while the Pirates lost 4-0 to the Chicago Cubs. Both teams were shut out with sturdy pitching by Dallas Keuchel and Jake Arrieta. Keuchel went six innings allowing no runs, striking out seven, while giving up three hits and one walk. On the other hand, Arrieta pitched a complete game shutout, striking out eleven while giving up four hits.
“Keuchel pitched like an animal, a lot of people had doubt because he never pitched in the spotlight but he came through, on the other hand, for Arrieta it was all about confidence. He’s 29 years of age and now he starting to figure himself out while pitchers who come at the age of 24 and 25 become aces,” Spanish teacher Mr. Reff said.
Astros will go on to face the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS while the Cubs go on to face the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLDS.
My picks for the teams that will advance to the ALCS is the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals. For NLCS, the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs are my favorites to advance.
