As the Mets look forward to a deep run in the post-season, the question of Matt Harvey’s inning limit lingers.
Dr. James Andrews, who performed Tommy John surgery on Harvey’s torn UCL has set the limit to 180 innings. Harvey’s agent Scott Boras went public to announce that he doesn’t want Harvey to surpass the 180 inning limit.
“This is not a club’s decision. This is a doctor’s decision” Boras said. “Any club that chooses to defy a surgeon’s wishes is putting the player in peril, ” Boras continued.
However, Harvey released an article stating that ”I will pitch in the playoffs” and once we are there, I will be there.” Harvey exceeded his 180 inning hard cap in his latest outing against the Cincinnati Reds where he went 6.2 innings, giving up 9 hit, 0 walk and striking out 6 as the Mets clinched their division.
“It’s unreasonable to put a limit on pitchers because they can blow their arms anywhere whether if it’s at 120 innings or 180 innings,” junior Anthony Rolleri said.
The Mets will not put any innings limit during the postseason and GM Sandy Alderson announced that Harvey is going to pitch game three of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
