WJPS has a nationally-recognized athlete in the classroom. 10th grader Tyler Nagele plays volleyball for several teams outside of school.
He plays in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU), traveling to different states to compete in age-divided tournaments.
Nagele has been playing volleyball for three years and currently plays for a team called Legacy Volleyball Club.
Nagele stands at six feet, four inches tall, which gives him an advantage over shorter players when he is near the net.
He and his team have won four tournaments together.
When asked how he sees himself in the future as a volleyball player, Nagele stated, “I think I’ll be one of the best players in the world once I’m old enough.”
If volleyball doesn’t work out, Nagele said, “I would probably go into journalism because it is my second option.”
