The Walt Disney Company has made a partnership with Open AI, donating one billion in an effort to make an AI generator specialized in generating Disney content from fans, for fans, calling it; Disney GPT.
This new AI will allow fans of Disney to type prompts for the AI and allow it to generate scenarios with Disney characters. It has also been stated that some featured generations may appear in the Disney+ catalog for viewers to watch.
While this may be innovative and a step for Disney’s general audience, this act does not show respect for the human love and craftsmanship put into many of Disney’s legacy productions nor productions made with human talent today.
Although the CEO of Disney states that this collaboration will be a creative extension for fans, they should still show and pay their respects for their employees and creators who are responsible for their animation outbreaks, legacy and modern alike.
WJPS teacher Ms. Lawton said, “It’s a little scary if everything is becoming AI because some people need to work at Disney to get paid.”
WJPS teacher Ms. Flanigan, “I don’t think the quality of AI will be comparable to human animators so I still hope they keep them around.”
