The annual Tony Awards are set for June 12th. This year marks the 75th year of the award show that celebrates the accomplishments of various Broadway performers.
The Museum Of The Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, which in recent months also had an event for Stephen Sondheim musicals in honor of the newest version of West Side Story, has decided to celebrate this in a very special event working in conjunction with the Jim Henson Exhibit.
With the exhibit about the creation of the Muppets, the museum has collaborated with Jim Henson to create an 80-minute show celebrating different iconic moments in musical theater.
This screening, titled A Henson Broadway Tribute, will take place on June 4th at 1 p.m. and June 10th at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets for this screening are free for museum members and cost anywhere from $9-$15 for non-members.
This beautifully creative show will take you through iconic moments in theater of stars such as Julie Andrews and Bernadette Peters as acted out by the Muppets.
WJPS teacher Ms. Bonanni said, “I think that’s a nice way to honor how special the 75th anniversary is.”
WJPS teacher Mss. Marks said, “I grew up watching The Muppets and loving their brand of humor. To see these beloved characters acting out classic theater moments will be its own iconic experience.”
It’s easy to look forward to this crossover between the Muppets and Broadway and hope to see more fun and creative events like this.
