El clasico started off this weekend in Camp Nou with Real Madrid shining and ending 39 unbeaten Fc Barcelona.
Real Madrid has been put into a lot of speculation this year as the team’s overall performance has been lower than usual. Many believe that Los Catalans were sure to secure a win at home against a weak Madrid.
But certainly, fate had other plans. Real Madrid ended up winning the game in the last minute.
The game started off intensely in the first few minutes when Luis Suarez missed a golden opportunity against a one- on-one Real Madrid goalie, Keylor Navas. The game became equally sided for the first half, leading both teams scoreless.
That all soon changed in the beginning of the second half. Barcelona took the lead when Gerard Pique scored a header into goal from a corner kick. But not soon after, Karim Benzema made the game level again when doing a bicycle kick off a defender’s rebound.
The game sure looked like it would be settled as a tie but in a game of soccer anything can happen. In the last few minutes, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo caught a cross from the left wing and shot the ball perfectly in between Barcelona goalie Claudio Bravo legs making the game winning goal.
“The thought of Barcelona losing their 39 unbeaten by their bitter rivals who are doing decent too is just hilarious. I wouldn’t call myself a Real Madrid fan but I love seeing Barcelona lose. They always win and it’s nice to see some change sometimes. Hopefully Real can take this win as a confidences boast and actually win la liga this season,” senior Joshua Vergara said.
The game ended 2-1. Now the whites look to shorten the gap between the two as now it’s a race against time as they try to win the La liga this season.
