WJPS seniors are going to prom in less than one month on June 2nd, however it’s become too expensive. In the beginning of the year, seniors were told they had to pay $425 in order to cover senior dues.
The problem is, senior dues don’t cover additional prom dates meaning that if you’re dating someone outside of WJPS, or even if you just want to bring an outside friend, you’re paying an additional $130 which brings dues up to $555.
Now of course prom comes with other needed expenses such as dress, suit, shoes, hair and nails, accessories, in some cases car rentals. By the time prom shopping is done some are looking at over one thousand dollars in expenses.
WJPS 12th grader Joseph Larocca said “Personally, I want to come in a nice car and a nice suit, but the prices are outrageous, I’m looking at $1,500 in expenses right now.”
WJPS 12th grader Noah Lim said, “I’m renting a Maybach(car) for the night as well as a house for after prom, I’m also paying $555 in total for senior dues, my expenses are around $3,000 for prom.”
