Resident Evil Requiem makes its long-awaited debut as the ninth main installment in the franchise and has solidified itself as one of their scariest and greatest games to date.
The game is everything a fan could hope for and more with its engaging blend of horror and action. It is currently one of the highest-rated games in the franchise according to Metacritic.
WJPS 12th grader Nicholas Zubovic said, “It was definitely worth the wait. Easily one of the best in the franchise. I love it.”
You can play as as brand new character Grace Ashcroft, who is an anxious FBI agent with her own traumatic past. Her game segments focus on sneaking around enemies to unlock puzzles, with an emphasis on her limited combat skills.
As a player, you experience an almost suffocating, eerie atmosphere where every step could mean the end for the protagonist. The jumpscares are well timed to the point where even minor motions have your heart speeding up.
On the other hand, the game switches perspectives to returning character Leon S. Kennedy, who is in search of a cure for a mysterious infection. These portions of the game are all combat-centered with Leon’s extensive abilities and the game’s new advanced mechanics.
Playing as Leon, a player feels a rush of adrenaline and becomes practically unstoppable. Every action sequence seems straight out of a movie with its cinematic qualities and fun finishing moves.
WJPS 12th grader Aida Dervisevic said, “I like that the story allows you to play as two different characters. It was nice to see an old character come back, but playing as a new character was very exciting.”
The game excels at bringing these distinctive characteristics together. Every time there is a switch in a character’s point of view, you are left on a suspenseful cliffhanger.
Aside from the mechanics, the story has also hit the mark with its callbacks to previous games while introducing new frightening villains with their own goals.
The graphics are also breathtaking with their attention to detail, to the point that the game seems to mimic reality.
Overall, this game is a must for any fans of horror games or action games.
