AP classes are supposed to be more advanced than regular classes, but sometimes AP classes can be overwhelming and very stressful.
Seniors already have the stress of completing college applications before their deadlines and also have to manage to stay on top of their AP classes.
WJPS 12th grader, Aida Dervisevic said, “It’s not a lot. I don’t feel that stressed, but the AP classes on top of college applications are really stressing me out. There’s too much happening.”
AP classes are supposed to stand out from regular learning classes, but the thing that truly stands out is the workload, it’s overbearing and unnecessarily given.
When students have more than just one or two AP classes, there’s more to study for than just one AP test.
WJPS AP computer science teacher Mr. Lai said, “The digital divide is unevenly divided among the population. AP computer science, the course, is used online. The work we do is done in school, everyone who doesn’t have a computer or internet at home has a chance to do their work in class.”
A solution to the workload from AP classes would be for the College Board to set a policy to limit the amount of assignments given to a student in one day.
Instead of a big project or homework given and due in a week, AP teachers should be required to tell the class a week prior about assignments. Therefore, students can better plan ahead with the rest of their workload.
