On October 23rd, PopCap Games released Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, a HD refresh of the classic Plants vs. Zombies One.
Plants vs. Zombies’ remake was anticipated because all other methods of playing the game were different, but it didn’t have HD quality.
While the refresh and call backs were nice, it has been evident that PopCap had made certain cuts to the remake and not many fans are happy about it.
Many previous game mechanics and options are gone or changed, such as the credit/music video being available from the start rather than a satisfying reward you get for completing the game.
Many minigames from the original do not appear in the remake, while it may not be a major change it still takes away from the experience the original had to offer.
In the remake, only the climax phase of the sound tracks are used, taking a big portion of the immersion from the original.
The biggest criticism seems to be that PopCap did not bring back the original team that made Plants vs. Zombies the childhood staple it used to be.
It has been shown that the current team used AI upscaling for some of the assets, fans state that they make it look worse.
All current attempts to revitalize PVZ haven’t been successful as they don’t seem to appeal to the fans.
WJPS 10th grader Rachel Bisangwa said, “I feel excited to play the original again. I used to enjoy PVZ a lot so I hope it lives up to the original.”
WJPS 12th grader Joseph Weir said, “I loved the game when I was a kid. I hope they’re able to recapture that feeling with this remake.”
