As we move into the third month of the new school year, Queens bus routes continue to challenge students after having changed over the summer.
Students who use the bus daily are experiencing longer commutes and difficulty finding their way home.
The new routes implemented across the borough have merged bus routes into one trip while others have created new, apparently creating faster routes.
For example, the bus stop right outside WJPS’ little schoolyard has been taken away, leaving students to have to walk to the next closest bus stop before the bus gets there.
Students may be adjusting, but what about the elderly who don’t have a phone to GPS their new route?
A solution could be the people of NYC starting a petition for the old bus routes to come back while still keeping the new ones operating.
WJPS 11th grader Sophia Dittenhoefer said, “I’m not used to stopping at different stops whenever I take the bus. Also, new routes are making the buses run less often.”
WJPS 12th grader Anika Narula said, “I feel like the bus stops changing have affected many people. It’s made the ability to get home so much harder for me. I have to take two buses, I used to take just one.”
