Starting this school year, the Adrien Block campus began using a video intercom system to unlock the front entrance door for students, visitors, and authorized personnel. It is used during times after student arrival and before student dismissal.
This is an excellent safety feature as it provides a strong basis for security personnel to be able to judge who should be allowed in the school. This provides less of a security threat, than just anyone being allowed to come in the doors freely.
It works by the visitor pressing the red button and once identified on camera, the security guard or designated door monitor will buzz them in.
The program that provides this system is known as Safer Access.
Before this system, all doors, except the front entrance, were locked, however now every door is locked.
A solution for those who may be confused on why the door may be locked, there can be a sign put up, at a certain time directing people to press the button to be buzzed in.
WJPS seventh grader, Yoonah Park said,” I think it’s annoying, if anything, if it’s not a student or somebody they recognize, the security can just stop them.”
WJPS 12th grader, Veronica Barros said,” I think it’s good, but I’ve been stuck by myself outside at 8:50 a.m. because of it.”
