The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the year, held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in Manhattan. 

It’s a fundraiser where celebrities, designers, and influencers wear outfits based on a set theme. Organized by Vogue, a fashion and lifestyle magazine, the event helps support the museum’s fashion exhibits and is an invitation only event.

The 2025 theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with the dress code being “Tailored to you.”

Traditionally, the event happens on the first Monday of May, meaning this year, it is planned to be on May 5th.

The first Met Gala took place in 1948.

WJPS 9th grader Skylar Hu said, “I don’t like it. They spend a lot of money on it and they don’t even look good. I mean, some of them do look pretty. It is good that they use the money for donating, but it still isn’t that good.”

WJPS 12th grader Adam Shalaby said, “It’s an artistic night where people get together and dress up and raise money for charity.”
