Approaching her 14th consecutive year being a part of the Francis Lewis soccer team, six as assistant coach, Ms. Leto is heading into her eighth year as head coach of the team. Her team is undefeated in the regular season during her time as head coach.
Coach Leto has a deep understanding of what it means to be a high school athlete as she was once in her players’ shoes competing for the very same school. Now, she is a special education teacher at WJPS.
She has won the Public School Athletics League (PSAL) Queens division title every year since she began as head coach in 2015 and was able to win the city championship with her team in 2017.
Coach Leto said, “The love for the sport and working to be able to get the girls to improve year after year and the family bond continues for years even after they graduate.”
WJPS senior Valentina Londono said, “I like my coach because she’s supportive and has always had my back no matter the situation. For that I am always going to be grateful to have been able to experience what I’ve had here in the Francis Lewis girls varsity soccer team these past four years with her guidance always by my side.”
Francis Lewis junior Mia Goicochea said, “I am happy to have been able to experience a team like this for the first time. I look forward to coming to school every day because I know I have practice after.”
