Recently, World Journalism Preparatory School hosted tryouts for the middle school basketball team. All students and genders from sixth to eighth grade were allowed to try out.
The head coaches of the WJPS middle school basketball team are Ms. Smith and Mr. Cole. WJPS has been hosting the basketball team since the start of 2022 and this will be the second year WJPS has had middle school sports.
WJPS teacher and coach Ms. Smith said, “I’m really excited that we’re bringing WJPS middle school sports to our school, I know the kids are excited about it.”
50 middle schoolers have tried out for the basketball team this year. However, only 16 were selected to be on the team.
WJPS assistant principal Mr. Yarmy said, “I think we need more middle school sports, it’s really important to have it. You know high schoolers have PSAL sports but we don’t have a formalized league for middle school so I think the more of these we put into play, the better off we are.
