For many WJPS seniors, the cost of all senior activities can add up quickly, making prom difficult to afford for some. These activities include the senior breakfast and graduation, both happening in June.
Senior dues are $175 and include cap and gown, graduation announcements and tickets, senior awards, diploma cases, honor cords, senior breakfast, and the yearbook.
Prom tickets are a separate cost at $130 per ticket, totalling $260 for students who decide to bring a guest.
For some, the cost and process of choosing a dress are their biggest concerns, as they don’t want others choosing the color and style they want to wear. Prom dresses can range in cost from $80 up to $1,000 in some cases.
Some other additional costs for girls might include manicures, getting their hair done, eyelash extensions, handbags, and heels.
For boys, a tuxedo suit for prom costs roughly around $150, including the pantsuit, tie, dress shoes, and dress shirt.
WJPS senior Jessica DeRosa said, “Having the same dress is embarrassing and the dress you pick could be an eyesore, so it’s difficult to try not to have the same dress.”
“I haven’t picked my dress yet because I don’t want to buy something without feeling like it’s my dress. It’s been tough trying to find a dress that I like and no one else will have,” said WJPS senior Karina Diaz.
