Yes, Dance is a Sport

Yes%2C+Dance+is+a+Sport

Dancing meets the same guidelines as any other athletic challenge which is why dance should be and is considered a sport to many.

According to a poll on debate.com, 86 percent of people call dance a sport while 14 percent call it a form of art.

A sport often requires a high level of skill and uses physical exertion, similar to dance in which teams or individuals compete against each other for  entertainment.

Aside from the similarities, dance in certain eyes can be set apart by an emotional connection to the movement, and audience, that can be viewed solely as a performance of art rather than a sport.

Damiana Digioia, a dancer and a junior in WJPS stated, “As a competition dancer for six years, I do believe dance is a sport because it requires a high level of coordination, body strength, and physical activity.”

Comparable to a sports athlete, dance requires crucial ability to work out,

be extremely flexible and practice.

Another former dancer in WJPS junior Angelina Esguerra said, “I consider dance a sport because it is necessary to have stamina, it’s competitive, and you have to stretch and warm up to perform well, just like sports.”

Dance fits into a sports category as it not only allows you to have better coordination, but it also improves balance and physical confidence.
