Stand Up Or Stand Down

Stand+Up+Or+Stand+Down

The American flag symbolizes freedom and hope. People should stand for the flag because many have sacrificed their lives for what the flag represents. People should not dishonor the flag even though there are no specific rules which dictate whether or not you have to respect it.

WJPS students present various views on the issue of whether or not people should stand for the flag.

A WJPS freshmen, Skyy Williams said, “Personally, I stand for the Pledge of Allegiance because America has been good to me.”

WJPS middle schooler, Lianna Sanchez said, “I don’t think everyone should stand for the flag. It’s their beliefs, and they should decide whether to stand or not.”

Everyone should stand for the flag because it honors our heroes; however, Colin Kaepernick does otherwise.

Colin Kaepernick, a player for the San Francisco 49ers, kneeled during the National Anthem and by doing so, showed blatant disrespect for our veterans.

He claims he knelt because of injustice present in the country. This injustice does not entitle him to shamelessly disrespect the flag by kneeling during the National Anthem.
