Box Trolls are digging for the truth

Box Trolls are cute, mischievous trolls that find their home underneath the bustling city of Cheesebridge. Being faced with extermination, the Box trolls fight to save themselves and their beloved family. The movie was cute and sent a good message to the children to always find the truth and to not spread lies, moviegoer Kosta Vithoulkas said. Photo by Markella Giannakopoulos.

Friends are disappearing, homes are being destroyed, and lies are being spread in the make believe world of Cheesebridge. Directed by Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi, Box Trolls combines cute  imaginary box trolls with an adventure that gets to the heart of the community.

Cheesebridge has an unknown underground dwelling that housed the Box Trolls and their human orphan Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead Wright). Box trolls are small creatures that dig into the communities trash to recycle interesting objects. Their whole underground home is comprised of recycled goods such as broken instruments, lightbulbs, and utensils.

“I enjoyed the movie, it was fun. The trolls were interesting and unique. They were something we haven’t seen in a while. It reminded me of the Gremlins, which was when I was a kid,” moviegoer Kosta Vithoulkas said.

Archibald Snatcher, the villain of the town, (voiced by Ben Kingsley), is set to exterminate all the Box Trolls to improve his social standing. This conflict carries Eggs throughout his journey to find the truth about his past and his real father. The animators had to recreate all the plants and objects in the movie, making their own little twist on nature.

Being loyal to one’s family and protecting them is a very important theme throughout the movie. Eggs loved his family and wanted to protect them from the evil humans hunting them. This movie holds true for an audience of all ages.

Another key theme is going green. The producers are subtly promoting going green by making the Box trolls reuse the garbage everyone else throws out. This is very beneficial because it will show the children watching it that they should also start to recycle and reuse goods.

“The graphics in the movie were very realistic. They were warm and inviting,” moviegoer Ofelia Vithoulkas said. Because the movie had the option of being watch in regular version or 3-D, the graphics become even more pronounced.

This PG movie is perfect for kids looking for an adventure animation movie. A fun loving fantasy that is based off the childrens story Here Be Monsters’ by Alan Snow.
