After last week’s events, where protestors stormed the US Capitol, there are concerns about possible riots at President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. ‘s inauguration. There has been an increase in security in Washington D.C., along with at other state buildings.

On the social media site, Parler, that was popular with far right extremists, there was talk of a “Million Militia March” scheduled for January 20th in Washington. The people involved conversed over the tools they would bring.

Not only has the Capitol been affected by these riots, but also statehouses in Kansas, Colorado, Oregon, and Georgia. CNN reported on an internal bulletin from the FBI that warns of potential threats, not only to the US Capitol, but other federal buildings across the nation.

“The events that took place at the Capitol were a little nerve wrecking,” WJPS teacher, Mr. Sampedro said. “Not only is New York security a little concerning, but the nation’s as there is a lot of civil unrest and polarization at the moment. With both sides of the political spectrum upset, anything could be the tipping point for something tragic.”

When asked how the potential threats affect his daily life, WJPS teacher, Mr. Reff said, “I think if there wasn’t a pandemic going on, things would be different. Maybe I would have to worry about going into work.”
