International Women’s Day took place on March 8, 2018 and sparked a powerful movement involving many women. Women all around the world were appreciated and offered great words of encouragement to one another as they took to social media to express their appreciation. Men were also celebrating International Women’s Day as they expressed gratitude to their mothers for shaping them into the men they are today.
“I was lucky enough to be raised by a strong woman and then lucky enough to later marry one. These warriors both shaped me as a man. To my momma and my wife. I love you. Thank you for teaching me what real strength and empathy is.” Manager of Justin Bieber, Scooter Braun said in his Instagram post.
International Women’s Day is celebrated in honor of all the achievements women have accomplished throughout history and across nations. WJPS takes part in International Women’s Day by spreading positivity, as well as celebrating Women’s History Month.
Every year WJPS presents their memorable Women’s History Month Show, hosted by the Do Something Club. In previous years, students have put on skits dressed as famous women in history, such as Rosie the Riveter, Marilyn Monroe, and Taylor Swift.
This year not only will there be skits but there will also be many performances, such as ones from Gabriella Marin and Toni Ann Whyte. As well as the Precision Step Team and the Spirit Club.
WJPS dedicates this day and these performances to all the women that have made a difference and stood up for our rights. We don’t use this day as just a day to remember women but also as a day to inform out student body of the women that don’t always get the recognition they deserve.
