Construction activity continues across the street from the school at 34-15 Francis Lewis Boulevard, where a new residential building is being built.
According to Dextall, the site is being redeveloped by Dynasty Contracting LLC with company MEI architects; additionally, JLS Group plans to make it into a six-story residential building, measuring approximately 15,000 square feet.
The space used to be occupied by Citizens Bank, but was demolished soon before development started.
The construction is still early on including the beginning structure and scaffolding.
Traffic and sidewalks have been affected surrounding the site during construction hours because of the trucks and equipment movement, along with the temporary barriers around the property.
The project is expected to continue for at least a few more months.
WJPS 10th grader Jake Yannacopoulos stated, “The traffic has gotten way heavier after school because of having to go around the crew and their vehicles.”
WJPS 12th grader Valery Cardona stated, “The sidewalk has been made smaller with nowhere else to walk around it, which makes it harder for people to pass by.”
