On May 26th WJPS is hosting its fourth annual walk in support of the Joanna Sophia Foundation, bringing students and staff together.
The foundation was created for nine year old Joanna Sophia Loannou who passed away in November of 2018 from Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP.)
WJPS 12th grade student Panagiota Sfelionoitis stated, “I enjoy participating in the walk each year because it brings everyone together for something important. It also gives students the chance to learn more about epilepsy and show support for Joanna Sophia and her family.”
This walk educates students and staff about what epilepsy is and the medical conditions that go along with it that may not always be visible.
WJPS 12th grade student Markella Georgiou stated, “The event creates a strong sense of community throughout the school. Seeing everyone take part in the walk shows how much people care about raising awareness and remembering Joanna Sophia in a positive way.”
The walk begins from the school to Bowne Park, which is approximately one mile from WJPS. Three Towns Cafe will hand out gelato to all participants once they get back to the school.
Students and staff can purchase T-shirts to participate in the walk until May 7th.
