Recently, the third floor high school bathrooms at WJPS have been locked not only during passing, but class periods as well.
If the bathroom is open, there is only one person going in at a time; if it is not open, you have to use the second floor middle school bathroom.
WJPS dean Ms. McCloskey stated, “This new bathroom routine is because people are taking too long in the restrooms, having conversations with others, and doing things they are not supposed to.”
Bathroom monitors keep track of the people using the bathroom by using sign-in sheets outside the bathroom area.
It also helps staff keep track of how long the students have been in the bathroom.
Ms. McCloskey hasn’t specified how long the bathrooms will be monitored like this, as she stated, “We’ll try to keep this going as long as possible.”
However, some students have negative opinions about the decision.
WJPS 10th graders Jorianna Anil-Ovalles stated, “I don’t like this new bathroom thing, it’s not even helping anything because kids that take long are still going to take long.”
