March is celebrated across the country as women’s history month. It is a time to honor and remember the important work women have done throughout history.
According to the National Women’s History Museum, the month originally started as a week in 1980 and eventually became a month-long celebration.
Women’s History Month is a reminder that women have helped shape this country and the world.
On March 31st, WJPS will host an assembly for all students to celebrate the month. Students will present important historical women and explain their achievements.
Famous women in history who will be honored include Amelia Earhart, Maya Angelou, Clara Barton, and Ida B. Wells.
WJPS 11th grader Aaiza Shahzad stated, “I feel like this month of recognition is a great way to show respect and support to women since they fought so hard to be where they are today.”
WJPS 11th grader Viktoria Vagiopoulos stated, “This month makes me feel thankful for all the opportunities that I have today because of everything that past generations did.”
