Discord recently announced a major update to its safety features, setting all accounts to a teen by default setting to protect younger users.
Under this new system, users must complete an age verification process to access restricted content, identical to Roblox’s recent age verification update.
When this age verification is complete users will have access to age gated servers and other mature material.
Discord also stated that they will monitor user activity to see if it can determine an age without the verification process. The release date was pushed back to the middle of 2026.
WJPS teacher Mr. Reff stated, “I don’t love it, in fact my group chat has left Discord because of it.”
WJPS 12th grader Joseph Weir stated, “I think there’s people who are in a similar age range who are being not included and because of that they may leave the platform.”
