On September 17th and 18th, thousands of walkie-talkies and pagers exploded in Lebanon.
These devices were in use by Hezbollah, A Shiite Muslim political party and militant group based in Lebanon, according to The Council On Foreign Relations.
The walkie-talkies and pagers were in use not only by Hezbollah fighters, but also by health care professionals. Pagers work without WiFi or cell service
Professional and regional security expert Amer Al Sabialeh believes that these pagers were tampered with during the shipping process. John Brennan, former CIA director said, “all suspicion has to rest on Israel for being the responsible party.”
The exploding pagers and walkie-talkies killed at least 37 people and injured 3,000 or more.
According to a 2017 British medical association study, pagers have remained the top/most used form of communication in hospitals in the last 25 years.
WJPS 10th grader Maxwell Sanz said, “What is the point in blowing up pagers that are used in hospitals?”
WJPS 11th grader George Sfakianos said, “I understand attacking fighters, but attacking hospitals is too much.”
