Smart Watches in Schools

Smart+Watches+in+Schools

Smartwatches are appearing on the wrists of more and more students in our school.

Smartwatches are mobile devices with a touchscreen display, designed to be worn on the wrist. The most common of them, the Apple Watch, connects to the owner’s phone, allowing the user to access their text messages, notes, Google, and most other search engines.

Some teachers and staff members worry that watches will make it much easier to cheat on tests in school, as they can be concealed without arousing much attention from moderators.

World journalism Preparatory School teacher and Apple Watch user,  Mrs. Bonanni, says, “I think that I don’t have a problem with Apple Watches being used in schools as long as they aren’t a distraction in the classroom. I do think they should be collected before tests because it is easy to use them for nefarious reasons.”

“Using a smartwatch is a form of cheating to some teachers, which I understand, but I just think they are here and available to us, so why not let us use them. I don’t think we should enforce any rules against them, that would be unfair,” said WJPS freshman Jessica Derosa, who is also a smartwatch owner.
