Pace Yourself

WJPS physical education classes in all grades recently completed the pacer test as part of the national fitness gram assessment. As it was a unit, students were expected to be ready to run a certain amount of laps based on previous year performance.

Students start off on the line and wait for the sound of the bell to continue to the next lap. It’s numbered so students know how many laps they did.

WJPS junior Dylan Schachter said, “This year this was organized better, it was done quicker and I felt better physically than last year.”

The test speeds up and for many, more difficult the longer they run.

WJPS Matheo Cuellar said, ”I improved more on cardio and was able to do more laps then he did last year.”

This assessment is broken into parts that also include a pushup test, a situp test , and a reach test. This is done every year in the schools across New York City and the country.
