Lengthen Summer Break

Lengthen+Summer+Break

A longer summer break provides students with an opportunity to rest their minds and treat their mental health. It allows them to explore their new hobbies and interests to expand their minds.

It allows students to spend quality time with their friends and family, having personal growth and a well-rounded development.

Extended summer breaks are good for students who want to escape academic burnout. Demands of modern education can be very overwhelming. A vacation provides the mental and emotional space that is needed for students to decompress and reflect.

Longer summer breaks benefit educators, school administrators, and staff. It allows teachers to engage in professional development, recharge their own batteries, and return to the classroom as more effective instructors.

Additionally, longer summer breaks strike a better balance between academic hardness and the need for relaxation and personal growth.

Noah Lim, a WJPS sophomore said, “If we were to have longer summer breaks it would improve my personal mind so much.”

WJPS sophomore Daniel Nolivos said, “Longer summer breaks are beneficial for me for working in the summer.”

Summer break should be three months long starting in early June and ending in early September. In order to achieve this schedule, the New York City Department of Education should remove February break and start Regents earlier to meet the requirement of 180 school days per year.
