Walk down the stairs, into a dimly lit room and one will find his or herself in the Studio at Webster Hall. The Tragic Thrills played a show at the venue on March 9th.

With three different concert rooms, Webster Hall was extremely busy on the night of this concert. Not only were The Tragic Thrills playing in the Studio, but DropKick Murphys were playing their 20th year Anniversary tour in The Grand Ballroom and another show was going on in the Marlin Room.

Opening for The Tragic Thrills were Lilly Lane, and AJ Smith. Linus the Moon was supposed to be the third opening act, but they never went on stage and it is in question as to if they even showed up at the venue that night.

Not only was this the first time since last year that The Tragic Thrills have played in New York, but this wasn’t just a regular concert. The band decided to embark on this tour because they will be releasing a new album sometime this year. At the show, they played their whole new album beginning to end. No other songs off of their first self titled album were played.

Even though none of the fans knew the new songs, they were still as engaged as ever. They were nodding along to the beat, cheering the band on, and even catching on to some lines and singing them back.

“I thought the show was really good and I enjoyed being able to hear their full album before it came out,” sophomore Robyn Landolfi said.

One downside of the show was that the person who was controlling the lighting messed up and turned off the stage lights. Instead of trying to fix this problem the lights were off for the majority of the show. This upsetted most fans because they paid for a show and to see the band’s faces, not just a dark silhouette of the members the whole time.

After the show, the band members stuck around and greeted fans. Fans lined up in front of one member, got pictures, signatures, hugs and talked for a little while before moving on and lining up in front of another member. All of the fans were very polite and waited their turns and didn’t rush anyone in front of them.

The Tragic Thrills just released their first single, “Soft and Sweet, off of their upcoming second studio album, “On Florence Street”, that is set to be released some time in the near future this year. They plan on going back on tour later this year.
