Highlights from this Year’s Grammy Awards

On Sunday, February 10th, the 61st Annual Grammy Awards ceremony was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by Alicia Keys, the night included performances from artists like Miley Cyrus, Travis Scott, Kacey Musgraves, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Lady Gaga, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dolly Parton, and Cardi B.
Childish Gambino won four Grammys with his song “This is America.” The awards were for record of the year, song of the year, best music video, and best rap/song performance.
Although she was not present at the awards show, Ariana Grande won her first Grammy for best pop vocal album with Sweetener. Allegedly, the pop star got into an argument with the Grammy producers regarding differences in choosing a song to perform, and thus did not attend.
The album of the year award was given to country artist Kacey Musgraves for Golden Hour. Musgraves also received the Grammys for best country solo performance, best country song, and best country album.
The Grammy for best rap song was awarded to Drake for “God’s Plan.” While accepting his Grammy, the rapper said, “All my peers that make music from their heart, that do things pure and tell the truth, I wanna let you know, we play in an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport. It’s not the NBA where at the end of the year, you’re holding a trophy because you made the right decisions or won games.”
Rapper Cardi B won best rap album with Invasion of Privacy and became the first solo woman to do so.
Next year’s’ Grammy Awards will take place on January 26th, 2020.
