The X-files was created by Chris Carter and originally aired on FOX, like the revival. The show focuses on two FBI agents, Fox Mulder, and Dana Scully, who work in the “X-file” department. Their job is to work on cases that have to do with unexplained phenomena, such as the paranormal and the show’s most central topic: extraterrestrials and government coverups. Agent Mulder portrayed by David Duchovny, is the die-hard believer and Agent Scully portrayed by Gillian Anderson, is the skeptic who’s also a medical doctor. The X-files went on for nine seasons, and included two movies. The nine seasons spanned from 1993 to it’s end in 2002. That is until it was announced it was coming back on for a six-episode revival season. The revival first aired on January 24th of 2016, with its debut episode titled, “My Struggle.” The episode dealt with filling in the timeline of what happened between the characters in the span of the years that the show was not on. Its following episodes aired every Monday, and stuck to the shows original series, but with an edge of humor plotline. The last episode of the revival titled, “My Struggle II,” aired on February 22, leaving fans with quite a cliffhanger about Agent Scully’s past: had she been abducted? This had been a longtime plotline in the series. “Watching the revival gave me a sense of closure; seeing the characters evolve was sad but also reassuring. You can know now that they came out alright, but the finale leaves you wanting to know more, if ‘the truth is out there’,” junior Elizabeth Browne said. The original nine seasons are available to watch on Netflix, and recently Chris Carter has revealed that the fans may see more of the X-files in the future.
