WJPS Seniors deserve early dismissal

Many seniors are in agreement that they deserve early dismissal for schoolwork, college applications, their job and other reasons as such. “I don’t think we should be held for more periods because it’s honestly pointless if we have all the credits we need to graduate. The only thing it does is put more stress on us and none of us need any more of that,” senior Adriana Anez said.

Even after obtaining all required credits to graduate, most WJPS seniors are obligated to undergo a full-day of school, taking more unnecessary classes that add more stress to their shoulders.

Although some people may argue that more classes keep students active, it also adds more stress to an already stressful year. Most Seniors end their days early, only taking the required classes they need to graduate or classes that would provide them with the credits they are missing, Forcingly, WJPS makes their students take extra classes that become useless credits. Most of the seniors at WJPS have more than the required 44 credits needed to graduate, some reaching up to 49 credits by the beginning of their senior year.

“I don’t think we should be held for more periods because it’s honestly pointless if we have all the credits we need to graduate. The only thing it does is put more stress on us and none of us need any more of that,” senior Adriana Anez said.

Allowing Seniors to leave early, will provide them with more time to put their minds on things that are actually important, such as college applications, SATs, college essays and other things. Giving students more classes provides more stress and takes up more of their time. At this time, seniors could use all the time they could get, as most of them work part-time jobs, making it difficult to juggle school and work.

“It’s really hard to juggle both school and work, most of us don’t have the time to pack on so many responsibilities so I could honestly use all the time I could get,” senior Laura Zabala said.
Some of the WJPS Seniors are taking classes that do not administer regents, making the classes even more useless. For this reason, students should be dismissed early so they could use that time in a more productive manner. Students are also taking unnecessary classes such as Study Hall and Advisory. Instead of wasting valuable time, students could be at home, working on more important things. Holding the students longer than required should not be allowed.
