Valentine’s Day 2022 is almost here, and people are gearing up to celebrate this overrated holiday. However for different age groups, Valentine’s Day tends to have a whole different meaning.

For some young elementary school children, Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean a lot. Sure, you may have a few kids in “relationships” that really just hold hands all day and exchange candy, but overall, little kids tend to lean towards the treat side of Valentine’s Day.

For example, most students can recall teachers making Valentine’s Day arts and crafts, or parties that include candy, cupcakes, cookies, and even donuts. There isn’t anything romantic, just fun and games for all.

High school can be a new terrain for Valentine’s Day, with some students experiencing their first relationships, leading to maturity and drama rather than just candy.

This isn’t always the case though, as some students celebrate with friends.

WJPS junior Victoria Distl said, “Right now I think it’s just a cute day, where friends exchange candy and gifts, nothing sentimental.”

WJPS senior Russell Guerra, “Valentine’s Day is about spending time with the people you love and appreciating the time you’ve spent with them.”

Overall, many older students tend to have a much more mature viewpoint and opinion on Valentine’s Day as opposed to younger students.
