Schools Need to Stay Open

Schools Need to Stay Open

There has been a rise in COVID cases due to the new Omicron variant. We all know that COVID is very much real and very much not going away anytime soon, but that does not mean we shouldn’t be taking those precautions and trying our best to stay safe.

If schools were to close again, students will get used to staying home and aren’t going to learn as much as being in the building. We would all love a break at some point, but closing schools down again would just be taking a step backwards.

WJPS 11th grader, Maria Sojos stated, “I think it’s a good idea for schools to close because COVID cases are going up and I want to be able to do things when I’m older.”

Charlize Polo, a WJPS 11th grader said, “Yes, I believe that schools might close because it doesn’t make sense to keep schools open if kids are getting sick.”

WJPS 11th grader, Anthony Cina commented, “I think the schools should close for at least two weeks so they can get situated and it doesn’t make sense because there have been many people absent.

We all would want to be in the comfort of our own homes, trying to be safe and protect ourselves from Covid, but closing schools isn’t going to be a step forward to our normal lives.

If schools continue to stay open, while having kids get tested and only allow those who test negative to come to school, then we can all move on.
