Light up sneakers, the BackStreet Boys, the feud between Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, and “Power Rangers” are just a few of the 90s trends many remember.

In ABC’s “Fresh Off The Boat”, the Huang family live with anxiety when they arrive to suburban Orlando from DC’s Chinatown. For 12 year old Eddie Huang (played by Hudson Yang), and his siblings Emery Huang (played by Forrest Wheeler) and Evan Huang (played by Ian Chen), the new neighborhood is very different from what they’re accustomed too.

When the family host a block party to get to know their neighbors, viewers get a kick at seeing the boys true character. Especially when rapper Eddie competes against Emery for love.

As for their parents Louis Huang (played by Randall Park), and Jessica Huang (played by Constance Wu), they work hard to prove Jessica’s traditional chinese mother how moving offered the Huang family opportunity by opening their own restaurant.

Based on the book, Fresh Off the Boat, by Eddie Huang the series will capture the story of what life is like for an Asian-American kid caught between two cultures.

“It’ like Malcolm in the Middle or Everybody Hates Chris, with a 12-year-old Eddie and retro ’90s setting in Orlando,” producer Melvin Mar said on National Public Radio.

According to American Broadcast Company, the new series will air every Tuesday at 8/7 central, and talk shows like Wendy William have called the show “Hilarious… something we didn’t have on t.v”.

“The trailer alone is super funny. I found out about it on a late night talk show and it looks really good. I wasn’t disappointed when it aired, and Eddie… listening to T-Pac and trying to get with that older pretty lady was priceless. When he failed at getting a kiss from her, and you just see his brother in the kiddie pool with a girl in each arm,” sophomore Melissa Chen said.
