Pop Culture Stardome

Pop+Culture+Stardome

Napoleon is not a name that rings in people’s heads daily, but certainly a well-known one. However, recently, Napoleon is becoming a household name on social media.

This is thanks to none other than Ridley Scott´s “Napoleon” trailer released on July 10th. The trailer hit the Gen Z audience by storm in September.

Napoléon Bonaparte lived from 1769-1821 and was a French dictator in rule of most of Europe for 15 years, according to Britannica.com.

The hype surrounding Napoleon is rather peculiar because people are trying to relate to a French dictator. It’s a tie-in to the current “sigma” era where people make jokes and attempt to relate to cinema characters in real or simply comical ways.

WJPS senior, Cameron Heinrich said, “I think it’s important to teach the youth about historical figures such as Napoleon. He was a powerful dictator and a big inclusion of power so naturally, they want to find him relatable.”

WJPS senior, Nathaniel Granger said, “The marketing is very interesting for this movie and there are a lot of memes on social media promoting the movie. There’s a lot of hype around the “sigma” movement and Napoleon adds to it.”

People like to relate and learn about power figures who are special and that may be why the Napoleon movie gained so much popularity.
