Police are investigating a murder after a duffel bag with human remains inside was discovered in Far Rockaway, Queens on Monday, March 30th.

Human remains were found on the shoreline at the end of Gibson Street in the Bayswater section of Far Rockaway before 11 a.m.

Residents of Far Rockaway were alarmed when the news of the remains arose. Many began to feel unsafe in their homes and on the streets.

“Far Rockaway has a reputation that is not very safe. I’ve had students in the past that are from Far Rockaway and they have been seemingly pleasant even though they’ve been brought up in a dangerous neighborhood,” math teacher Mr. Gardner said.

Human remains of the body have not yet been identified but the medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.

“If I saw a dead body in a duffel bag, I’d stare at it for a while, leave and then call the cops,” 8th grader Jesse Sanchez said.

Far Rockaway is being presumed as an unsafe community urging people to be more cautious on the streets after the incident.
