Another horrific plane incident has occurred, leaving the families of 150 people heartbroken. The Germanwings jetliner, on its way from Barcelona, Spain to Düsseldorf, Germany, collided into the Alps. On Tuesday, March 24th it crashed after France air traffic controllers lost contact of the plane when it vanished from the radar at 10:53am.

All of the 150 passengers on the jetliner lost their lives which included, 144 passengers and 6 crew members. There was no immediate elucidation of the crash. It was later considered an accident in a press conference but with further investigation, authorities think it may have crashed because of other reasons. According to the NY Times, the airplane had completely disintegrated.

As helicopters and rescuers were searching they found a black box from the jet which could answer the questions everyone had. The cockpit voice recorder, which captures up to two hours of the pilots’ conversations as well as other cockpit noises, including any alarms that would have sounded as the plane descended was recovered.

“It’s sad because there’s so many unanswered questions and there is no closure for the families yet but what makes it worse is that this incident could’ve been prevented,” junior Binnah Cha said.

While authorities investigated other reasons of the wreck, they found that the 27 year old German co-pilot, Andreas Lubitz, had vision problems that may have been one of the causes of the crash. Authorities say the co-pilot was also dealing with a psychological condition. He was alone in the cockpit of the jet and paid no attention to the captain who urged to get back in. Notes from doctors that were found in Lubitz’s apartment declares he was “unfit to work”.

“I feel bad for the families of the passengers on the plane because they didn’t know something like this would occur and they don’t even know the actual reason why the crash happened,” senior Gabby Sanchez said.

Investigation is still going on to answer the questions of the devastated families. Authorities will also question Lubitz’s family and close relatives.
