If there was one word to sum up Derek Jeters career, it would probably be “respect”. The 40-year-old captain of the Yankees has recently retired.

The word became “Re2pect,” with the “S” changing into a “2” in honor of his jersey number.

“Derek Jeter had an amazing career and he exuded class and professionalism the entire time,” assistant principal Mr. Jurman said.

Many people looked up to Jeter and thought of him as a hero. Derek Jeter touched the hearts of many people around the world, whether they’re baseball fans or not.

Baseballhall.org says, 306 players have retired and been inducted into the MLB hall of fame, in Cooperstown, NY. After retiring from the game, players have to wait 5 years to be eligible to be voted into the hall of fame. So Jeter will most likely be included in the 2019 Hall of Fame ceremony.

“As I was watching him walk off the field, I felt as if I was watching one of my own kids. It was heartbreaking watching him swing the bat for the very last time” school aid, Mrs. Amy, said.

Derek Jeter will always be remembered with complete honor and respect.

“I dont even follow or watch baseball, but I didn’t need to to hear about Jeter retiring. It was the only thing on social media, which means it’s probably a big deal.” Junior Daniella Bohan, says.
