Entering the game with much needed momentum in the form of a Game 1 Victory, the New York Rangers looked to extend its series lead against the valiant Pittsburgh Penguins.

Pittsburgh needed a win for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, as it would give them

an edge going into an always important third game of the series.

Penguins Captain Center Sidney Crosby was instrumental in Pittsburgh’s victory. Notching two goals in the second period. Crosby was dependable when the Penguins needed him because it helped them take control of the the game.

New York’s effort wasn’t visible throughout the game, and the Ranger’s Top Forward, Left Wing Rick Nash wasn’t shy to address it.

“It’s totally not good enough,” top forward Nash said.

Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury outdueled Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist by five saves (Fleury had 23, Lundqvist had 18).

In the latter moments of the game, Center Derick Brassard managed to score and lower the deficit to 3-2. New York was overwhelmed offensively by Pittsburgh and it was highlighted constantly.

“I think we came to New York, and we knew they were the best team in the league, and we were on our heels a little bit. But after the last two periods of Game 1, now we know we can play with this team, and we can beat them,”  Pens forward Max Lapierre said.

New York is basically back to square one in terms of momentum. Game 3 will be an important game for both teams as they endeavor to have an advantage against one another.

“Game three is very important depending on who has the Home court advantage. Whoever wins basically take control of the series and how it will progress,” english teacher Ms. Marks said.
