Son of Assistant Principal Nancy Poulos, Angelo Poulos is a Junior in WJPS. He prefers to play Baseball in his spare time or hang out with friends.

What inspired you to play baseball?

In the first grade, there were permission slips for the Bayside Little League in my school. It was then that I decided to give it a try.

What position do you play? Do you feel comfortable at that position?

I play as an Outfielder. I am very comfortable playing at this position because I’ve spent a lot of time practicing. Practice and the actual game is very similar which is why I have no issue being an Outfielder.

How many years have you played Baseball?

I started playing in the first grade, I didn’t really care to go back in the second and third grade. Fourth grade was when I had the desire to play again. From fourth grade to this year, I’ve been playing Baseball.

Who is your favorite player and how have they inspired you?

My favorite baseball player is Derek Jeter. He was a classy guy and he was always humble. He never showboats or used steroids and he always put in hard work.

What sport would you prefer to play rather than Baseball?

For recreation I play Football with my friends. Mostly in the offseason, I continue to play Baseball. That’s what my dad makes me do to stay in shape.

What life experiences have you learned playing Baseball?

You’re always going to be yelled at from the mistakes you make.  I used to get yelled at a lot and I eventually got used to it. I made many mistakes playing Baseball and I learned from my mistakes. That’s how you grow as a person.

What are your favorite/least favorite moments playing Baseball?

One time I pitched a complete game. I had eight strikeouts and one hit. It was a very big game for me as a pitcher and I always look back at it.

Do you have any advice to those that want to play competitively?

[You should] have thick skin because you’re always going to made fun of or yelled at. There’s going to be times when you’re shaken up at what’s happening. You just have to let it happen and learn from it. Eventually, you’ll overcome it.

Off topic question: Why did you dress up like Barry White and sing one of his songs last week? What was your motive?
