Datafication

Datafication

Datafication is a method used in science to gather and analyze research data, model complicated systems, and provide predictions.

It involves transforming different types of information, such as texts, images, sounds, and actions, into digital data that can be processed, analyzed, and stored.

WJPS junior, Athena Eyzaguirre said, “Datafication has the potential to amplify existing inequalities, as those with more access to data and technology have a significant advantage over those who do not.”

Datafication has spread throughout society because of the growing use of technology and digital gadgets. For instance, businesses utilize datafication to study consumer behavior, create marketing plans, and streamline operations.

Governments utilize datafication to gather and examine demographic data, monitor crime rates, and track the spread of illnesses.

WJPS junior, Jacob Geraghty said, “The recent data breaches and scandals involving companies such as Facebook and Cambridge Analytica have highlighted the need for stricter regulations and ethical frameworks to govern datafication practices.”

Datafication has caused things such as increased productivity, better judgment, and more individualized services, but it has also posed issues with privacy, security, and potential data misuse.
