The SAT Breakdown

The+SAT+Breakdown

On March 1st, many juniors took the SAT for the first time. The March SAT Day scores will be available on March 23rd through the College Board website.

With scores being available also comes future SAT test dates are available to register throughout the months of May to December.  For students who take the SAT multiple times there is something called superscoring that is found by taking the highest score of their English sections and their math sections from a student’s separate attempts for the highest possible SAT score.

For those who apply for early action, it isn’t recommended to take the SAT’s in the later months of your senior year because it won’t be included on your college application since you’ve already applied to colleges.

It’s recommended to sign up early for SATs because of the limited seats at the testing sites. Students who hadn’t signed up early in the past have traveled as far as Connecticut and New Jersey to get an SAT date.

Students who receive reduced or free lunch are eligible for fee waivers. The fee waivers provide students with unlimited score sends, free college applications, and multiple free SATs. If you want to know if you qualify, ask any of your AP teachers, advisors, assistant principals, and guidance counselors.

WJPS juniors share their experiences taking the SATs.

WJPS junior Nathaniel Granger said, “I thought it went alright. Some of the reading parts were kind of difficult because I didn’t finish in time. I had to guess on seven questions and for the other reading part with the grammar, I had to fill in four questions for guessing. I plan on retaking it though, so I think it’ll be fine next time.”

WJPS junior, Johan Lee said, “In my opinion on the SAT, the ELA section was harder than the math section because I took a little bit more time, since there were more questions. The grammar kind of confused me. And the math section, it was easier than the ELA in my opinion. Although I missed short response questions.”
